The Key to Motivation That Beats Them All

The Key to Motivation that hits the jackpot for me, is to have a trigger.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming tells us that a trigger can spark off or" trigger off" a reaction.
That reaction of course, could be for good or bad.
For example, if an abused child has the memory of a father swishing his hands down to give a beating, that child may react anytime anyone makes that same movement, even if it happens to be the playful gesture of a best buddy.
Here, however, we are interested in finding a positive trigger which for me is the key to motivation.
Let me tell you how just a few words became a trigger for me.
I have always been a huge tea drinker, and with each cup of tea, I slipped in a heaped teaspoon of sugar.
I knew this was bad for me, but despite my best efforts, I couldn't seem to do anything about it.
However, one day, in a travel agent's, I was casually leafing through a magazine and the words that follow seemed to become stamped in lights in my brain.
"Cancer cells gobble up sugar.
" Now, the next time I went to put the teaspoon of sugar in my tea, those words just popped up in my mind.
I hesitated and then did not put the sugar in.
I thought, if this was true, I would be stupid to feed such damaging cells.
Now, the strange thing is this, I did not only reduce my sugar intake for that day, I stopped putting sugar in my tea forever!.
Looking back, I still can't believe it.
That is how strong a trigger can be and that is why I am convinced that it is the key to motivation.
This was one small event which had enormous repercussions on my health.
I was not looking for a cure to my sugar-taking habit, indeed, I had given up trying, and to be quite honest, at that time, I thought a trigger was a part of a gun, and had not read anything at all about Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
This led me to ponder, if this key to motivation was found casually, then surely I could consciously try to find a "trigger" for other things.
Another example of a trigger being the key to motivation, was when I was having a particularly challenging project with different ethnic groups.
I decided to affirm under my breath, " No barriers," every time I met people with different customs and mentalities.
That is all.
It was incredible how I seemed to overcome problems that leaders before me had had.
I would say this each and every time when my chitter-chatter mind was about to bring up all the difficulties,"No barriers.
" Believe me, "No barriers," did wonders, whereas other attempts to reconcile these different customs and mentalities had failed.
How amazing! I had always enjoyed the Musical "Oklahoma" and loved the chorus of the song, "Oh What a Beautiful Morning, which finishes with "Everything's Going My Way.
" I have used that catchy phrase, many a time, on my way to interviews, going to pick up medical analyses, and often use it, just to get myself off into expecting the very best day.
This is the key to motivation that really works.
Experiment with it yourself, (and you can also observe any negative triggers that may be holding you back at the same time.
) You will be surprised as to what this reveals.
I can't emphasize enough, the key to motivation is to find some sort of trigger, whether it be a movement, a word, or an image, that automatically sets off a positive secondary reaction and, use it consistently.
Then watch the results!
